New gear alert!!! Bang-A-Song is proud to announce the arrival of their new 130 year old 1886 Steinway A1 grand piano! It’s got 85 keys and plays better than a piano 1/10th is age! The bass is deep and tight and the highs have it all. Feel free to come check it out!

The Marconis transmitted rock music.  John Jerome burned another jam down.  Telamor worked on their Greatest Hits.  Ally Doody sang real pretty.  Meg Griffin and Bob Woodruff taped another session of “Words with Meg” for Sirius/XMTae Kwon Flo let it flow.  The Poor Sports scored a(nother!) hit.  Josh Richard overdubbed his debut.  Electric Factory X worked their assembly line.  The Elements jahmmed.  Mike Francis channeled the Soul RebelChelsea Berry filmed a documentary.

Dear Y’all,

Well, it’s been awhile but that’s summer in Gloucester….if we’re not in the studio cutting tracks were on the water kicking back….no extra computer time allowed!  Still feels like summah here today but enough time has passed I think I ought to update….

Not surprisingly, there are some great albums that have had their toes in the Bang-A-Song pool for even just a little bit. (And even if their toes weren’t here recently, we’re still happy to push these great recordings. Here are some of the latest:

Jon Butcher remixed.  The Great Madness got on the radio.  Geoff Small inflated his airbag.  Telamor tracked and shot.  Soul Rebel Project cut guitars. Will Vincent played all the instruments.  Megan McKenzie souled the soul.  Ally Doody sang the hits.  Chelsea Berry worked up new tunes.  Pete Minigell picked up where his brother left off.

The Great Madness premiered their newly released track “Our Town” on Radio 92.9.

Friend to all (and especially to Bang-A-Song) Willie Alexander and The Fishtones promised “I’ll Be Goode”, on their new full length LP.

Lastly, the Full Length, Red Bird, Dynamic Duo, CroonSome TwoSome release from Renee and Joe has hit the streets.  The album is entitled “Red Bird” You can buy it, gift it, stream it, and even acquire it on CD.  You will be gratified.

In The Studio: Oct/Nov/Dec 2015

Karen K and the Jitterbugs mixed some magic.  Matt and the Lower Standards cut another batch of soon to be standards.  Jon Butcher is this close to finishing his next album.  The Instinct finished their new record “Mostly Awake”.  Sandra Lee baked a melody.  Pocket Tanya channeled his inner Purple.  Renee and Joe married melody to tape.  Mexican Ape Lord went ape. Telamor recorded more.  John Jerome took us home.  Leo Ciaramataro practiced his strokes. Sophia Gadbois cut her college application.  The Poor Sports scored a hit. Graham Neill and the Band of Wolves howled into the mics.

3rd Annual Bang-A-Song Holiday Jam

Tony at the BoardPlease join us Monday, December 21st from 6pm-9pm for the 3rd Annual Bang-A-Song Holiday Jam at Bang A Song Studios in Gloucester.

We’ll have pizza and beer, instruments and amplifiers. Come perform your best version of “Jingle Bells in Dub”, “Christmas with the Martians” or “Santa’s Got an Airplane”!

In The Studio: August/September 2015

Mosse finished their excellent debut. Jon Butcher continued to pave 2 Roads East. Grudge Roots brought the grunge.  Ally Doody wowed us.  Telamor finished an amazingly original EP of Rolling Stones covers. The Instinct mixed LP#2.  Geoff Small got big sounds.  Gary Shane transferred Johnny’s Coaltrain.  Josh Cominelli snapped some pics.  Simon Ritt paid tribute to Madeleine Albright and Jim Lauderdale in one song.  John Jerome started something great.  Pocket Tanya got his radio edit on.  Sandra Lee sang her heart out.  Lisa Manning touched up her mixed emotions.  Missus Goddess cut background stacks.

In The Studio: June/July 2015

Mosse mixed.  Jon Butcher continued to travel Two Roads.  Telamor recorded more. Kenny Chambers consulted.  Harbor Walk updated their app. The Modern Kitchen swung.  Sandra Lee developed her originals.  Matt Bowie recorded with his Brothers (Instinct).  Renee and Joe recorded moe.  Satch Kerans finished his latest record.  The Instinct massaged their mixes.  Dan King and Russ Lawton grooved.  Alexandra Grace and Josh Cominelli cut acoustic demos.

I was asked to contribute a piece on Guster to the Boston Herald’s “Guestlisted:  Boston 101” series.  Here’s the lovefest that ensued….

In The Studio: May 2015

Jon Butcher jammed.  Lisa Manning performed poetry.  Telamor channeled Kanye. The Instinct mixed it up.  Mike Francis and Wren Sound created songs from thin air.  Hot Lemon squeezed out a mix. Pulp Free OJ squeezed out a senior project.  Don(na) Freylue started a track on acoustic.  Sonic Euphoria cut another collection.

Tony taught a Music Production and Engineering class through the excellent auspices of Sound Harbor.  Thanks to everyone who attended! Look out for more classes in June.

Mosse is growing songs.  Jon Butcher is making magic, Spanish Castle style.  Sarah Kilborne is creating an audio calling card for The Lavender Blues.

Here’s what went down at Bang-A-Song in April: The Heavy Denims rocked their roll.  Telamor recorded more. Don(na) Freyleue mixed the hits.  Satch Kerans mixed one of his.
Colin Rosso gave himself a beat and broke it down on the mic. The Instinct took LP 2 to the next level.  Geoff Small channeled Chris Bell (yes!).  Matt and the Lower Standards cut two soon-to-be standards. Lisa Manning cut 17 tracks for her fourth LP.  Soul Rebel Mike Francis and Wren Sound wrote some top lines. Jon Butcher showed us how it’s done.

Monday, May 18thThe Goddesses help host Monday Night Open Jam at the Rhumb Line with an opening set at 9:30 and a closing set at midnight.  It’ll shake, it’ll rattle, it will likely roll.

Friday, May 22nd – Tony will be telling a story at the Gloucester Writers Center’s Rock & Roll Fish Tales event at Short and Main starting at 7:30pm.  Rock & Roll details will be divulged.

Saturday, May 30th – Tony will be hosting one of Sound Harbor‘s Spring Workshops at Bang A Song Studios. “In-Studio Production and Recording” will be a three hour workshop (1pm-4pm) for anyone who ever wanted a chance to learn record production by doing it: using microphones, mixing boards, effects and computer based digital audio workstations to make a recording. Reservations are $30, and you can sign up at soundharbor.org.
